We’ve all spent a lot of time in our homes over the past year and in doing so a lot of us have also spent lots of time dreaming about bigger homes or how to better our existing homes. If you’ve decided to improve rather than move, don’t just stop at home renovations and improvements, renovate and upgrade your shed or garden building too. Why not turn it into an extra room or a tiny version of your home for you to enjoy for years to come?
We’ve got some great inspiration and top tips to help you get started!
Waterproof your shed

Start with the basics!
Before you even start thinking about what you want to use your extra room or tiny shed home for, you’ll need to make sure it’s weatherproof and watertight. The last thing you want is to wake up one morning for your shed roof to be ripped off or leaking. Corrugated sheets are much more effective than traditional felt and there are lots of different corrugated sheet styles available to match the overall look and feel of your shed renovation.

We love bold colours
Every shed upgrade or renovation MUST include a fresh lick of paint otherwise is it even a renovation project? We love how The DIY Dads have been bold in their colour choice with black cladding and matching black ONDULINE CLASSIC roof sheets.
Let in the light with windows and doors
And skylights!
This is a step not to be missed if you want to turn your shed into a garden office, hobby, reading or relaxation room - plenty of natural light will get your creative juices flowing - and with some of Onduline’s roofing, you can maximise the natural light with skylights too!

Insulate it!
A slightly more boring but very practical step is to insulate your shed as whatever the purpose of your new extra room, you’ll want to keep it warm - especially if your new shed is going to be a tiny shed house and someone is likely to sleep in it like with this cabin. Note, just because you want to insulate your shed it doesn’t have to be boring in design, we love how this customer has created a clear wall with our ONDUCLAIR PC perfect for stargazing.
Add plumbing?

Get the water flowing
Your new extra room doesn’t need to be an extension of your home, it could be an extension of your garden by creating a garden bar or kitchen to help with those summer BBQs. Or if it is going to be a tiny version of your home, you’ll likely want some water too so make sure you include a sink. We love the rustic style of this utility sink from Decor Pad.
If you are going for a garden bar or kitchen, don’t forget that welcoming serving hatch! The perfect addition, read all about this garden bar shed transformation with ONDULINE CLASSIC sheets.

Lights, camera, action
If you’re using your extra room as a place to work, whether that’s your day to day or your hobby, you’ll most definitely want lights and maybe even power for electrical equipment like computers or sewing machines. A tiny shed house will definitely need electricity too. Check out Instagrammer @TheSeasideSew lighting, how cool is that!
Don’t forget the floors
You’ll most definitely want to upgrade your shed’s flooring no matter what its new purpose is going to be. If you’re on a budget, why not sand it down, give it a lick of paint and add a couple of rugs. This will be way more cost-effective than laying new flooring.
Soft furnishings

Make it cosy
Every shed renovation needs some creature comforts especially if your new room is going to be for relaxing in. This transformation from Ella Claire Inspired looks super comfortable, we can see ourselves reading in there for hours!

If you’ve got the space
And you’ll need the budget too, of course, but extending your shed could open up a whole range of possibilities. No more fighting over when your in-laws might live in older age or if your new shed will be the man cave, hobby room, garden office or bar, you could have it all with this shed upgrade.

Create a treehouse
Put your shed up on stilts and create an outdoor playroom for your kids...and a secret hideaway for you, their parents, too. We just love how this customer has used ONDUCLAIR PC sheets to make a clear side and could you imagine the look on your kid’s faces if you added a slide too?
