Whether you’re an experienced DIYer or just getting started, we’ve put together a handy step-by-step guide you can follow to reroof your garage with ONDULINE EASYLINE sheets.
Materials you will need:
ONDULINE EASYLINE sheets
ONDULINE SCREWS or ONDULINE NAILS
Timber battens (if required)
Measuring tape
Hand saw
Ladder
Electric drill
Electric screwdriver or hammer
Safety gloves and goggles
Step 1: Check your existing roof structure
You can over-roof your existing garage
One of the key benefits of Onduline sheets are that there is no need to remove old felt or shingles before installing. So rather than starting completely fresh, you can use our sheets for over-roofing to make your DIY re-roofing project even easier.
Before you being laying you sheets, ensure the supporting purlins are sound, stable, and free from any rot or significant damage. If you find any weak or damaged areas, it’s important to replace or reinforce them before continuing. A strong foundation ensures your new roofing will last for years to come.
Step 2: Measure and plan your layout
Measure the length and width of your garage roof carefully to determine how many sheets you’ll need and check the pitch of your garage roof, the minimum roof pitch for ONDULINE EASYLINE sheets is 10°. It’s also important to measure the distance between the supporting battens, these must be spaced no more than 43cm apart.
Once you have all your measurements you can cut your roofing sheets to size using the handsaw. And don’t forget to wear safety gloves and goggles - it’s always better to be safe than sorry!
Step 3: Lay the sheets
Lay the sheets in staggered rows with a maximum overhang of 7 cm over the gutter and start the second row with half an EASYLINE sheet cut lengthwise and then continue with full sheets.
Remember to lay the sheets in the opposite direction to the prevailing wind, overlapping each sheet by a minimum of two corrugations.
Step 4: Fix the sheets
Secure with Onduline Nails or Screws
Once the sheets are positioned, use minimum 15 fixings per sheet to secure them, fixing every corrugation at eaves, overlaps and ridges. Every other corrugation should be fixed at the immediate purlins and the fixings at immediate purlins should be staggered.
Step 5: Fix the verge
To improve wind resistance and give your garage roof a neat and tidy finish add the verge accessory once all your sheets are secured.
Position the verge so it sits neatly over the edge of the roof sheet, then fix it securely, first into the sidewall and then through the top of the corrugation.
Step 6: Secure the ridge
Matching ridge for secure waterproofing
Starting at one end, position the ridge piece so it overlaps the sheets on both sides of the roof.
Fix the ridge through the top of each corrugation along both slopes, ensuring each ridge piece overlaps the next by at least 12 cm. Continue along the entire length until the ridge is fully covered, creating a watertight and tidy finish that ties the whole roof together.
Step 7: Inspect and admire your handy work
Once all the sheets, verge pieces and ridge elements are in place give your roof a final inspection. Check that all fixings are secure, overlaps are tight, and everything is aligned and even.
If everything looks good, simply step back and admire your handy work!
