CASE STUDY: The Braley Family’s Ultimate Pig House
Animal house upgrade with Onduline
The vision
You can be as happy as a pig in mud without living in a pigsty. That was the thinking behind this project, where we teamed up with the Braley family (@thebraleyfamily on Instragram) to create a pig house that delivers year-round comfort for their much-loved resident pig Percy, while looking clean, modern and thoughtfully designed.
Abbie and her husband, Cal, along with their children, lovingly care for an array of animals in the English countryside, from dogs and cats to chicken, sheep, pigs and horses.
The family embarked on this exciting project to build a new home for Percy, who had become particularly fond of joining the horses in their stable and even relaxing in the family home.
Bringing the vision to life
The couple began by using a children’s playhouse they found on Marketplace, transforming it into the perfect structure. Complete with a small window and a charming covered decking area, it provided an ideal starting point.
Once the structure was in place, attention turned to the roof. Arguably, this is one of the most important elements in ensuring Percy has a comfortable and reliable shelter throughout the year.
The first step was installing the ONDUTISS AIR membrane which not only helps maximise waterproofing but also provides protection against condensation build-up, mould and rot. Effective moisture management and airflow are essential for maintaining thermal performance and creating a comfortable environment for animals in all seasons.
Next came the ONDUVILLA roofing tiles, chosen for their striking appearance and practical benefits. The beautifully textured sheets replicate the look of traditional roof tiles and, in a rich shaded brown finish, helped create an elegant and characterful look.
Following the installation instructions, the couple carefully laid the lightweight tiles, overlapping each sheet to create a watertight seal. Ridges and verges were then fitted and secured using matching ONDULINE SCREWS, completing the roof and giving it a professional finish.
With the roof complete, it was time for the finish touches. Solar-powered string lights, a waterproof sofa, artwork and even Percy’s very own TV transformed the space into a home fit for a king!
The finished result
Percy’s pig house perfectly balances style and practicality. The ONDUVILLA tiles are free from asbestos and harmful substances, making them safe for animal shelters, while providing excellent protection from the elements, whether facing heatwaves, heavy rainfall or strong winds.
The tiles also offer noise dampening properties, helping to create a calm and peaceful environment for animals and allowing Percy to watch the TV in peace!
“We loved this project. We’re so impressed with how brilliant the ONDUVILLA tiles are and how good they look! We’re thinking of putting the tiles on all the other animal houses are it looks so nice.”
We’re delighted to have partnered with The Braley family on this project. Their passion for animal welfare shines through in every detail, and it’s been fantastic to see how ONDUVILLA tiles have helped create the ultimate pig house for Percy.
With a 15-year guarantee, the family can also enjoy complete peace of mind, knowing the shelter will remain protected and waterproof for many years to come.
